Bermuda Plan 1992, Review

The Bermuda National Trust recently completed a review of the Bermuda Plan 1992, Planning Statement. The Development and Planning Act 1974 is the law that regulates development in Bermuda . Section 6 of the Act calls for a development plan to be prepared by means of surveys and studies that take into consideration social, environmental and economical factors that will effect Island for the next ten years or so.

The Development Plan acts as a land-use plan and the accompanying Statement is the policy document that sets out the rules of development for the plans duration.

Currently the Department of Planning is preparing a new plan and statement to replace the 1992 Bermuda Plan. They are inviting local stakeholders and the public to supply input with respect any recommended policy changes or requests to change the established use/designation of land.

The National Trust submitted input with regards to our properties on May 19, 2006 and a Planning Statement review on May 25, 2006 .

The Planning Statement can be downloaded from the Forward Planning Section (Department of Planning) of the Bermuda Governments website www.gov.bm.
