Samaritans' Lodge
Located at the east end of the town at the junction of York Street and Water Street, this building was built in 1844 as a storehouse and became home to the International Order of Good Samaritans in about 1907. This was one of the friendly societies that provided essential support and welfare for the Black community in the period after emancipation. Since 1994 the building has housed the Museum of the Bermudian Heritage Association which has an exhibit based on the history of the friendly societies and the accomplishments of Black Bermudians.
